Nederland Economic Summit 2003

PPHCP facilitated the first annual Nederland Economic Summit on May 22, 2003. The goal of the event was to create the desirable economic future for the Greater Nederland Area.

Over 100 people attended and listened to presentations on the following topics: Developing a Consumer Preference Survey, 10 Keys to Creating a Competitive Downtown, Economic Gardening and the Entrepreneur. Three visions were created. Vision 1: In 2010, there is a clean, aesthetic, and functional infrastructure that links the central business district with our natural and recreational resources. Vision 2: In 2010, there is a diverse set of businesses, services, and non-profit organizations nurturing an affordable, thriving community that reflects our unique history, environment, and people. Vision 3: In 2010, there is a sustainable family-oriented economy with high quality schools, childcare, and well-developed support systems. As a result of this project, a steering committee has been formed and has sent out a Request for Proposals (RFP) to area consultants in order to conduct a market study of the community. To date, over $12,000 has been raised for this effort. The committee will meet on December 18 to select which consultants to interview in January 2004.
