Attendance

In attendance at this meeting were: Jill Dreves, Wild Bear Center for Nature

Discovery; Carol Rinderknecht, Susan Lutz, and Andre Mallinger, Nederland Area

Seniors; Arden Buck, Mountain Forum for Peace; Betsy Buck and Margaret Cloud,

Nederland Artists Co-op; Katie Asmus, Boulder County Safehouse; Garry Sanfacon,

Peak to Peak Healthy Communities Project; Melissa Selby, Columbine Family Health

Center; Ashley McNamara, High Country Community Greenhouse Project; Kimberly

NANA

After opening the meeting, going over the agenda, and agreeing upon the proposed

meeting outcomes, the group discussed the name for this new area non-profit

alliance. The working name, based upon the initial alliance meeting was NANPA.

After discussing the possible acronyms, NANA was agreed upon. Thus, NANA-the

Nederland Area Non-Profit Alliance-proposes to be the grandmother of all

alliances.



Missions and Programs

The meeting then moved on to the brief presentation of the missions and programs

of those groups represented in order for all members to become more aware of

each individual group's focus and purpose. The following is a very brief

synopsis of what these groups are about.



Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery

Mission: The mission of Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery is to offer

year-round, hands-on educational programs to people of all ages in order to

foster a life-long appreciation of the environment and to promote an

environmentally aware, responsible and ecologically sound community.



Wild Bear offers programs for children and teens, and family workshops and

outreach programs. They also sponsor community projects.



Mountain Forum for Peace

Focuses upon:

· peace issues

· environmental issues

· human rights issues

They are responsible for the peace garden in Nederland, the sponsor school

projects, and they hold a much anticipated rummage sale each year. They also

provide funding to local groups, which apply to them.



Boulder County Safehouse

Focuses upon:

· women, children, and teens and domestic violence issues

· empowerment

· services

· education

· training

They offer shelter and support to women and children in order to provide a way

out of abusive situations. They also reach out to women, to their children, and

to the community through their services, education, and training.



Nederland Area Seniors, Inc.

Mission: To assist senior citizens in enhancing their quality of life, enabling

them to live a life of respect and honor. This includes, but is not limited to,

operating a senior organization which will plan, organize and facilitate

nutrition, education, recreation, socialization, transportation and outreach

programs, as well as other services for senior citizens living in the Nederland

and surrounding area.



Peak to Peak Healthy Communities Project (PPHCP)

Mission: Bringing people together to positively impact community issues.



PPHCP facilitates and convenes community meetings around issues identified by

community members. It coordinates and manages projects, co-sponsors community

events, and assists local groups in collaboration and facilitation techniques,

fundraising strategies, and in enhancing their effectiveness. PPHCP also serves

as fiscal sponsor of some local non-profit organizations.
