Meeting Minutes

Nederland Area Trails, Open Space, Parks, and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan

Steering Committee

Summary of Meeting: May 7, 8 - 10 AM, Nederland Community Center

Present: Jill Dreves, Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery; Sheila Ranegar,
Trail Mix; Larry Tasaday, Eldora Civic Association; James Churches; Garry
Sanfacon, PPHCP; Gene Dilworth, PPHCP.

The committee reversed its earlier decision to facilitate a prioritization
process at the public meeting. Though there is still concern among some members
that more prioritization would be better the committee agreed for a number of
reasons that the executive summary and capacity building chapter could convey an
appropriate level of prioritization and action plan, and that at this time the
committee would not pursue more detailed prioritization process.

The committee set the formal title of the plan as: "Town of Nederland and
Surrounding Areas Open Space, Trails, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan."
This is the same as the title on the original grant application, except that
the words "trails" and "open space" have been reversed to reflect the actual
emphasis of the plan.

The committee discussed and made minor revisions to the executive summary.

The committee discussed the capacity building chapter. Significant change was
to suggest time limits on creation of advisory body (30 days) and adding Town
staff (in 2002 budget).

The committee agreed that the entire document has been thoroughly reviewed and
revised, and that it could be sent to ERO for final public draft.

The public meeting date was changed again (and finally) to May 31, primarily
because the Nederland High School is having their sports awards ceremony on the
30th . This event typically draws a big crowd and may be a present a conflict
for many community members interested in parks and recreation.

The committee discussed a format for the public meeting. The general plan is to
have time for informal discussion with committee members, formal presentation of
the plan, and time for large group comment and dialogue about the plan.
Individual committee members will serve as "experts" on particular sections of
the plan; these individuals will lead the presentation and be first to answer
questions pertaining to their respective sections. A more detailed plan for the
meeting will be distributed by e-mail.

Gene will write a letter to the editor announcing the Plan (for May 17
publication).

Larry will draft a letter to the editor inviting the community to the open house
(for May 24 publication), to be signed by all steering committee members.

Note: The revised time-line for public release of the draft is as follows:

May 8: All revisions on electronic copy to Andy
May 19: Completed Draft Plan back from Andy
May 21: Draft Plan distributed to community
May 31: Public presentation and meeting 6:30 PM

*No further Steering Committee meetings planned, until the Open House.*
