Nederland Area Trails, Open Space, Parks, and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee





Summary of Meeting: April 30, 8 - 10 AM, Nederland Community Center





Present: Jill Dreves, Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery;  Sheila Ranegar,


Trail Mix;  Jim Cowart, PUMA;  James Churches; Garry Sanfacon, PPHCP; Gene


Dilworth, PPHCP.





The committee discussed Goals and Policies for Outdoor Recreation.  Significant


changes include:


* a new goal of developing a "gateway park" at the west end of Barker reservoir;


* re-classifying skate park, dog park, and neighborhood park policies as


"goals" for consistency with other goals


* drop the level of detail from skate park action items, for consistency with


other goals


* emphasize policy of developing management plans for all parks


Other minor changes will be reflected in future drafts.





The committee discussed whether to be more specific in the plan with


prioritized action items and a phased work plan.   Though the committee is


somewhat divided on the need and appropriateness of more specific


prioritization, it was agreed to open the process up to the community.


The committee decided to present the draft plan at the public meeting and


facilitate a process to let the meeting attendees set the priorities.





The public meeting date was moved back to the last week in May, in order to


allow for one more steering committee meeting and adequate preparation for


the public meeting.
